DIRTcar SPORTSMAN RULES
BODY AND FRAME: Stock appearing body. Aftermarket nose allowed. Interior may be gutted. Engine firewall and floor pan may be fabricated from 16 gauge sheet metal. All safety and general rules above apply. Body alterations allowed for tire clearance only. Steel factory stock roof required. Roof must retain stock drip edge and at least 1” of A, B and C post. Body cannot be wider than stock body (1/2 the tire). May use sheet metal or aluminum (22 or 24 gauge), but must have stock bodylines. Body must be same width and height of a stock body. Rear must be closed in. Fiberglass hood allowed. Uni-bodies MUST tie front and rear frames together with tubing to insure a rigid frame. Stock wheelbase for car being used + or - 1”. No compacts or pick-ups. Front of roof may be dropped 2” from stock height. Rear of roof must be in stock location. Full frame cars must use GM frame under GM body, years need not match. Cannot look like a Late Model Sportsman, or Late Model. Spoilers no more than 7” taller than the rear edge of the trunk lid, and no wider than the trunk.
ENGINE: MUST have 1/8’’ hole in water pump & intake bolts for engine tag. Any cubic inch engine allowed. Must carry (8) lbs. Per cubic inch minimum. Or crate motor must weight 2,825 lbs. The CID must be displayed on hood of your car at ALL TIMES. Hydraulic or solid lifters only. No roll lifters, ceramic lifters or roller cams allowed. Any cam, and lift, aluminum manifold allowed. Holley 4412 carburetor unaltered. Choke flap may be removed. Any cast iron heads allowed. Porting and polishing allowed. Any valve springs, roller rockers allowed. Screw in studs, guides plates and stud girdles allowed. Headers allowed. MUST RUN MUFFLERS (112535). #1 Plug must be even with or ahead of the center of the top ball joint.
Option Two: Properly Sealed GM 602 Crate Motor in any make car. (2,825) pound minimum car weight after the race.
TRANSMISSION AND CLUTCH: Any clutch or flywheel, no spools. Cars must be self starting, and able to engage and disengage clutch. Any three, four, or five speed transmission allowed. No quick change transmissions. Any automatic transmission. 1/4" steel shield or blow proof bell housing required. Racing clutch required for driver safety due to potential high RPM’s in this class. Steel driveshaft ONLY.
FRONT SUSPENSION: Must use stock type lower a-arms, tubular uppers ok. Weight jacks allowed. Racing springs and steel shocks allowed. Any Shock location allowed. After market spindles ok.
REAR SUSPENSION: Weight jacks allowed. Lower tubular arms ok but must not exceed 23”. Cross member for upper may be fabricated. Shocks may be mounted any location. Upper control arms may be shortened or lengthened to set pinion angle, maximum length 36”tubular arms ok. All cars may run panhard or J-bar. No spring bar or biscuit bar allowed. Three or four link allowed. Racing springs and steel shocks allowed. Leaf spring cars may move front perch up or down.
WHEELS AND TIRES: Bead locks allowed. If you run EC1, EC2, 55 or 56 you can run any aluminum or Steel wheels maximum 14” width. No siping, no cross grooving. Wide 5 hubs allowed. Cross grooving allowed on 55 / 56. All 55 / 56 tires must punch 60 before the race.
REAR-END: Rear end may be any productions 5 or 6 lug. Rear-end disc brakes allowed. No quick change.
CLAMIER: Any ignition box may be claimed after feature race by any competitor finishing feature race. Track receives the right to claim any and all competitor’s ignition boxes. All claims must be $250.00 cash within five minutes of feature race & include rev limiter chip if applicable. Refusal of claim will result in loss of all earnings for the night and all points for the season! Anyone refusing claim will be fined $250.00 and or suspended for two weeks.
The tech man's decision is final.
